About this blog
Ferries have been a vital way of moving goods and people since before Charon ferried the ancient Greeks across the Styx and many survive today in spite of modern infrastructure. On our most recent visit to the Bay Area, I discovered that a regular ferry still runs between San Francisco and Oakland paralleled by the multi-lane Bay Bridge and BART in tunnel beneath. I had the idea for a project for my 70th year to visit as many working ferries as I could. This is the story of my visits.
